On Wednesday we visited New York City. We started the day off in the Bronx at The Yankees Stadium. We got a tour of the museum, the memorial to all the great Yankees of the past and then finally down to the dugout. We then had lunch at Battery Park where we were able to see The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island as we ate. Our final destination of the day was the 9/11 Memorial. It has been two years since we have visited the memorial and a lot has changed. To say it is very moving would be an understatement. An important stop for our who students. Many of them were not even alive when the event took place. We look forward to coming back in the next couple of years to see everything completed. We walked roughly 1 mile on Wednesday. Bringing the total to 8.8 miles.

The spire on top of One World Trade Center is complete! 1,776 feet tall! Amazing few this morning! I can't wait for our students to see it in person this June! Any ideas as to why it is exactly 1,776 feet!?
I have scheduled our first trip this summer! As promised, NYC was first on the agenda. We will start the day in the Bronx with a tour of Yankees Stadium and its museum. The curator of the museum is Brian Richards. His uncle is our tour guide of Gettysburg each year in fifth grade and suggested we add this to our NYC tour! After that we will take a short trip to Central Park for lunch. From there we will head down to The High Line. This will be our third stop on The High Line for B.E.E.S. I found out about this great destination in our "Time for Kids" magazine. Each year they have added on to the trail. We can't see how far they have come since our last visit in 2011! We will end the day with a stop at the Ground Zero Memorial. The students and staff were very moved by our visit there two years ago. This is now one of the biggest moments of American history and something that occurred before most of our students were even born. Click on all the links to learn more!
